Separation anxiety is not a desirable trait for your puppy. Separation anxiety can lead dogs to howl, cry, destroy furniture, and even hurt themselves. While you will be tempted to smother your puppy 24/7 with love, there will be a lot of times they will be left alone as they get older. We can teach them from a young age that this is going to be a healthy and normal part of their schedule.

The best way to do this is to crate train. Start by putting your pup in the crate for 15 minutes at a time. Increase the length of time as it goes well. Eventually, they should be able to be in the crate for 2+ hours while you are at home with them. Be sure to still adhere to the potty training schedule while doing this. And, you can take it slow. They don’t need to work up to 2 hours in the crate on the first week.

Your puppy will grow up to be an independent, happy dog!
