Puppy Care
On the Go!
Traveling with your dog can be a rewarding experience, but it requires careful planning to ensure your pet is safe, comfortable, and happy. Here at CVL, we want to help guide and encourage you as you prep your dog for travel!
- Visit the Vet: Ensure your doodle is up-to-date on vaccinations and check for any health issues. Get a health certificate if required, especially for air travel.
- ID and Microchip: Update your dog’s tags and microchip information with your current contact details.
- Pack Essentials:
- Food and treats
- Collapsible bowls
- Leash, harness, and poop bags
- Bed or blanket
- Favorite toys
- Grooming tools (their coat may tangle more after outdoor activities)
- Medications, if needed
-
Car Travel:
- Use a dog seat belt or travel crate for safety.
- Take breaks every 2–3 hours for potty stops and stretching.
- Keep the car well-ventilated and never leave your doodle alone in a parked car.
- Our CVL puppies are accustomed to car rides as our trainers often take them on drives before they are sent home to their families.
-
Air Travel:
- Check airline policies for pet travel.
- Use an airline-approved carrier for in-cabin travel.
- Book direct flights to reduce stress.
- Research vets in the area that you will be traveling to.
- Keep them calm with toys, treats, or calming sprays if they’re anxious travelers.
- Familiarize them with the travel routine beforehand, such as spending time in the car or crate.
- Research vets in the area of your travel destination before your trip.
We hope you find these tips helpful during this busy season of holiday travel!
About CVL
Colonial Village Labradoodles is Indiana’s premier labradoodle breeder. We raise multi-generational Australian Labradoodle and Australian Bernedoodle puppies with a purpose. Our dogs are bred for their therapy-oriented temperaments and allergy-friendly coats.
What is a multi-generational Australian Labradoodle?
Multi-generational Australian Labradoodles are a cross between many different parent breeds. The breed originated in Australia in the 1980s with the intent of creating an allergy-friendly service dog for the blind. Australian Labradoodles are a combination of a Poodle, Labrador Retriever, English Cocker Spaniel, American Cocker Spaniel, and Irish Water dogs. These breeds were hand-selected for specific breed qualities to create the ideal service dog for those with allergies. Since then, the breed has continued on and spread across the world. Australian Labradoodles are now considered their own breed with its own breed clubs (ALAA and WALA).
