Dog safety

Heat + Humidity

Sometimes we forget our dogs are sensitive to heat. Here’s a good rule of thumb to follow of whether or not it may be too hot to handle:

If the temperature (in °F) plus the humidity level is over 150, you should avoid exercising your dog outdoors. For example, if the temperature is 80°F and the humidity level is 80%, it’s too hot to take your dog on a run (80 + 80 = 160). Signs of heat exhaustion include excessive panting, fatigue, fast heart rate, dry/sticky gums, dark red or purple gums or tongue, stumbling or seeming dizzy, vomiting, difficulty breathing, seizures, and collapse.
