Puppy Tips

Winter Paws

During the winter and extreme cold it is so important to take care of your dog’s paws. Here are a few helpful tips to best care for your pup during these cold winter months:

– Applying a pet-safe balm (make sure it has natural/pet friendly ingredients incase they try to lick it off).

– Protect their paws by using little boots or shoes that they can wear when outside.

– Use a dog-safe moisturizer that you can daily apply to their paws. Do not use human lotions as these ingredients can be harmful and toxic!

– Trim the fur in between their paws to prevent ice and snow clumping and freezing onto their fur and skin.

After walks, rinse your dog’s paws with warm water to remove salt, de-icing chemicals, and dirt. Dry them thoroughly to prevent irritation.

With this love and care, your doodle will thrive during the winter months. If needed, contact your vet for serious paw irritation. We hope you stay warm and enjoy time with your CVL doodle during this cold weather!

About CVL

Colonial Village Labradoodles is Indiana’s premier labradoodle breeder. We raise multi-generational Australian Labradoodle and Australian Bernedoodle puppies with a purpose. Our dogs are bred for their therapy-oriented temperaments and allergy-friendly coats.

What is a multi-generational Australian Labradoodle?

Multi-generational Australian Labradoodles are a cross between many different parent breeds. The breed originated in Australia in the 1980s with the intent of creating an allergy-friendly service dog for the blind. Australian Labradoodles are a combination of a Poodle, Labrador Retriever, English Cocker Spaniel, American Cocker Spaniel, and Irish Water dogs. These breeds were hand-selected for specific breed qualities to create the ideal service dog for those with allergies. Since then, the breed has continued on and spread across the world. Australian Labradoodles are now considered their own breed with its own breed clubs (ALAA and WALA).
