Training Tips for Adolescent Dogs
Baxter and Bella offer many tips and recommendations on training, resources, and helpful information through their free online blog. Recently, Baxter and Bella shared a blog post “Thriving Through the Teenage Phase: Daily Training and Engagement Activities for Adolescent Dogs”. This blog offers many helpful tips and perspectives that we would like to share with our CVL families.
The adolescent stage is crucial in your dog’s development. This stage usually starts around 6 months of age and lasts up until 12 or 14 months. Including daily training through this stage will help improve your dog’s behavior and confidence while strengthening your bond with your dog.
The first area to focus on is that of impulse control. “Teaching your dog to pause and think before acting prevents impulsive behaviors like jumping, lunging, or grabbing food. Simple exercises such as “Wait” before meals, “Leave It” with treats, or practicing a calm “Sit” before going through doors can reinforce self-control. Consistency is key—reward patience and calm choices!”
We will continue sharing more of these helpful tips on our blog through the next couple of weeks. Be sure to visit Baxter and Bella’s page and don’t forget that here at Colonial Village Labradoodles we offer a 25% off promo code when you shop with Baxter and Bella: CVL25
About CVL
Colonial Village Labradoodles is Indiana’s premier labradoodle breeder. We raise multi-generational Australian Labradoodle and Australian Bernedoodle puppies with a purpose. Our dogs are bred for their therapy-oriented temperaments and allergy-friendly coats.
What is a multi-generational Australian Labradoodle?
Multi-generational Australian Labradoodles are a cross between many different parent breeds. The breed originated in Australia in the 1980s with the intent of creating an allergy-friendly service dog for the blind. Australian Labradoodles are a combination of a Poodle, Labrador Retriever, English Cocker Spaniel, American Cocker Spaniel, and Irish Water dogs. These breeds were hand-selected for specific breed qualities to create the ideal service dog for those with allergies. Since then, the breed has continued on and spread across the world. Australian Labradoodles are now considered their own breed with its own breed clubs (ALAA and WALA).
