This week I have had two girls in heat. With two litters of puppies currently (and their 16 corresponding families) and my family, I have been so busy. Yesterday, I took Waverly in for a progesterone test. We go to great lengths to insure that all of our dogs get pregnant. Dr Genetiempo texted me that her numbers rose unusually quick and that it was time to breed her. What to do? The stud was 30 minutes away and we had a major storm approaching!
I decided to head on up to breed her as I had promised families that I would use a certain stud over my boy that lives down the street. Molly and I set off and decided to get dinner on the way home so we could hurry with the approaching storm. This particular patch of 1-65 is known to be dangerous in good weather but with the storm, I knew it could be trecherous.
Zeus and Waverly were having a slow “get to know you” and I realized that we would not be able to mate there, so we put both dogs in the car. As we pulled down the guardian’s driveway, the sleet started. What is normally a 30 minute trip became an hour and a half of the most dangerous driving I have ever done. I white knuckled it while Molly and I prayed for safety. It is not fun driving 20 miles per hour in an ice storm with two dogs in heat!
God bless my sweet husband, when I pulled in at 9:15, he took over the dog breeding and let Molly and I eat dinner. These puppies are worth the effort but sometimes there is TONS of effort! Sixty-three days from now we will see the puppies and it will be worth our harrowing drive!
Zeus, the stud that was worth the drive!
