Buying a pet puppy is a huge decision and one that should not be taken lightly. Australian Labradoodles can live to about 12-15 years. They’re at a minimum a decade-long commitment and you’ll want to make sure that you find a breeder and a puppy that is the right fit for you and your family. So, here are some questions to ask a potential breeder:

  1. Do you health test your parent dogs?
  2. What generation are your puppies?
  3. Do you raise your puppies on a curriculum?
  4. Do you offer a health guarantee?
  5. Do you have your clients sign a puppy contract?
  6. What do you charge for pet puppies?
  7. Do you take deposits?
  8. Does your deposit go towards the pet price?
  9. How long is your waitlist?
  10. Have their parents been bred previously? How did the puppies turn out?
  11. How do you match puppies with families?

Here’s how Colonial Village Labradoodles would answer those questions:

  1. Yes! All of our parent dogs are genetic tested, OFA Hip and Elbow tested, CERF tested, and temperament tested. Tests are available upon request. We always take these tests into account when making breeding decisions. Potential parents who fail one of these tests are taken out of our program before having puppies.
  2. We raise multigenerational Australian Labradoodles. All of our parent dogs come from long lines of multi-gen ALDs. We stop counting after 8 generations.
  3. Yes! Our puppies are raised according to a custom curriculum we have curated for over 17 years. The curriculum is based the on Avidog curriculum. Puppies are exposed to a variety of smells, environments, sights, and sounds in a safe and controlled environment over the course of 8 weeks.
  4. Yes! We offer a 2-year health guarantee. It is a blanket guarantee that covers any genetic diseases.
  5. Yes! Our puppy contract includes our 2-year health guarantee. It is also an agreement that all of our clients must sign before they take a puppy home. By signing it, it shows that they understand our terms and conditions. That includes if they wanted to rehome their dog then they must involve us. It is super important to us that none of our dogs ever end up in a shelter.
  6. Our Australian Labradoodle puppies are $3,250 plus IN state taxes. We occasionally have Australian Bernedoodle litters too, they are $3,500 plus IN state taxes.
  7. Yes, we require a $500 deposit to reserve a spot on our waitlist or a spot on a specific litter list.
  8. All deposits are non-refundable but are transferable between litters. The deposit goes toward the pet price.
  9. Waitlist times depend on a variety of factors- what you are looking for and what we have available. Sometimes you can get lucky and be placed with a puppy right away. Other times you will have to wait a couple of months.
  10. This is a great question to ask a breeder when deciding on what litter is right for you! The answer depends on the pairing.
  11. This is another great question. CVL does things a little differently than other breeders. We temperament test all of our puppies at 6 weeks of age. We then use the temperament test and our family applications to determine which puppy is best suited for your family. Our families are guaranteed their puppy’s gender, color, and size but the final decision on which puppy goes to which family is ultimately our decision. Our goal is to make everyone happy and to make a perfect love match.

Hopefully, these questions and answers were helpful to you in your puppy search! Best wishes!
